How Are You Responding?

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

It's not the what it's the how!

Restrictions and limitations are often used interchangeably, but it's important to highlight the differences. Restrictions can be temporary or permanent, like when someone is unable to walk due to a football injury or paralysis. On the other hand, limitations don't prevent you from performing an activity; they simply dictate how you perform it or for how long.

For example, beachgoers may be restricted from entering the beach for the next 7 days, meaning they can't access it during that time. On the other hand, if beachgoers have limited access to the beach, they can still enter but won't have full access, perhaps needing to use a different entry point.

Consider if you've confused restrictions with limitations in your own life. Instead of seeing restrictions negatively, view them as limitations and seek alternate routes. Obey the law, follow rules, and listen to your doctor, but don't let restrictions, whether permanent or temporary, prevent you from pursuing your next best thing.

Remember, it's not what happens to you but how you respond. As Bobby McFerrin sang, "Don't worry, be happy." Embrace the challenges, find alternatives, and maintain a positive outlook.
