🌤️ #LearnedMan | “Built for the Hard”
(Inspired by Kara Lawson – “Handle Hard Better”)
Life doesn’t get easier. We get better at handling hard.
Kara Lawson, head coach at Duke, shared a message that stops you in your tracks: Don’t wish for easy — train for strong. She reminded her players (and in truth, all of us) that the goal isn’t to hope challenges disappear; it’s to become someone equipped to face them with wisdom, grace, and grit.
The first time I heard her say, “Handle Hard Better,” I thought about how that shows up in every corner of life — relationships, work, friendships, even within ourselves. We keep waiting for the next season to be smoother, lighter, less demanding. But what if the shift isn’t around us — it’s within us? Funny enough, someone mentioned it less than a day ago, and I couldn’t resist putting pen to paper.
I’ve lived long enough to know that the weight doesn’t always change, but the lifter does. Through the years, experiences, conversations, and lessons (some painful, some powerful), I’ve learned that resilience builds capacity. The people I meet, the books I read, the energy I keep around me — they’ve all shaped my ability to handle hard better.
It’s not about seeking comfort; it’s about seeking growth. Every challenge carries a hidden classroom, and the longer you stay open to learning, the more fluent you become in the language of strength.
As Kara put it, stop waiting for “easy.” Life isn’t designed that way. Instead, lean into your training — your patience, your kindness, your faith, your focus — and know that every season, even the quiet or the stormy ones, is preparing you for what’s next.
Because when you’ve done the work, you don’t fear the hard.
You’re built for it.
