Just a little over a week ago, I had the privilege of speaking to an incredible group of young people about brand identity and the power of a village mentality—highlighting a concept I call “The Village Bentley Mentality.” Since then, I’ve been putting the finishing touches on a message that’s been on my heart: Remote Control. I’m excited to finally share it with you.
There’s a special kind of peace that comes from knowing you’re in control—not just in life, but in the little things too. Think about sitting on your couch with the remote in your hand. That simple device? It’s powerful. You can go forward, rewind, pause, mute, change direction… and just like that, you’re no longer at the mercy of what’s playing. You decide.
Now imagine that remote is for your life.
When you understand the metaphor and trust the process, there’s a peace that comes with knowing: you hold the remote. You are the driver and navigator of your journey. Let’s break that down:
▶️ Move Forward
Sometimes it’s time to just press “play” and move ahead. That might look like choosing a new opportunity, applying for a position you almost talked yourself out of, or finally deciding to prioritize your mental wellness. Forward doesn’t have to be fast—it just has to be consistent.
Example: You decide to sign up for a class or certification you’ve been procrastinating on for years. That’s forward movement. That’s you pressing “go.”
◀️ Go Left or Right
Life often presents choices—left or right. Both are options, but only you can decide which one is right for you. Going left might mean walking away from something familiar, while going right could mean staying and shifting your approach.
Example: You’re offered two roles—one with comfort, one with growth. You pause, reflect, and choose based on where your peace lives. That’s directional control. That’s holding the remote.
⏪ Back Up
Backing up isn’t about defeat. It’s about evaluation. It’s wisdom in reverse. Sometimes you have to revisit a conversation, a boundary, or a missed opportunity with a new mindset.
Example: You reflect on how a disagreement with a loved one played out. You realize there’s space to re-approach it differently. So you reverse—not to live in the past, but to reenter it with better awareness. That’s growth.
🔁 Make a U-Turn
Every now and then, you have to admit you were headed in the wrong direction. That’s not failure—it’s maturity. A U-turn doesn’t erase progress; it repositions purpose.
Example: You started a project or relationship that, deep down, no longer aligns with your peace or values. You don’t stick with it just to save face. You turn around. Proudly. Peacefully. Powerful.
🔄 Do a Full 360°
Before moving ahead again, a full 360-degree turn helps you see everything—where you’ve been, where you’re going, what you missed, and what you need to release.
Example: You take a personal day, not just to rest, but to reflect. You unplug. You look at your health, finances, relationships, habits, goals—all of it. That panoramic view prepares you to drive with clarity and courage.
🛑 The Power of Control
When you truly recognize that you own the remote, you realize you’re not just watching life—you’re directing it. The remote is in your hand, and the vehicle (your method of transport—your goals, values, purpose) responds to your input. That control—when used wisely—brings peace that can’t be manufactured. It’s peace rooted in confidence, intention, and self-awareness.
So, the next time life feels chaotic, unfair, or overwhelming—pause.
Remember: you’ve got the remote.
You can move forward, shift, revisit, change direction, or see it all again before you proceed.
You’re driving with lessons Learned—and that’s not just control.
That’s peace.
🎮 You hold the remote.
🚗 You drive the journey.
🧘🏾♂️ That’s real peace.
